How Often Do Londoners Clean Each Room?
London flats get cleaned less often than houses
Flat owners clean on average 2.3 times per week, while house owners clean 3.1 times per week. Researchers attribute this to smaller living spaces in flats reducing visible mess between cleans.
The "weekend clean" is dominant
71% of respondents do most of their cleaning on Saturdays or Sundays. Only 12% clean during weekdays. This aligns with London's long commuting culture — residents average 54 minutes each way.
The oven is the most neglected area
Despite oven grime being the #1 cause of deposit deductions in our client study, only 8% of respondents clean their oven more than twice a year. The average gap between professional oven cleans is 14 months.
Professional cleaning correlates with higher satisfaction
Households that use a professional cleaning service at least once a quarter report 34% higher satisfaction with their home's cleanliness compared to those who only clean themselves.
Methodology
This research was conducted between November 2025 and February 2026. We surveyed 200 households across all 32 London boroughs through a combination of online questionnaires (70%) and phone interviews (30%). Respondents were recruited through our client base, local estate agents, and community groups. The sample includes renters (62%) and homeowners (38%), with ages ranging from 22 to 67. Results have a margin of error of approximately ±7% at the 95% confidence level.
